Take it from me a mother of four, finding ways to lose weight after delivery is a quest of mine. Believe me, it gets tougher to lose the weight after each delivery.

However, there are five tips to lose weight after delivery that I have found to work after each birth.

1. Think gradual weight loss.

The natural tendency to lose weight after delivery is to try to do it quickly. This is a mistake. You’ll lose heart. The weight most likely won’t come off as quickly as you hope, anyway. Chances are that you’ll gain the weight back. Expert after expert says to take it slow.

2. Breastfeed, if you can

Does 500 extra calories burnt a day sound appealing? It should. This is what the average woman burns per day when breastfeeding. If you seriously want to lose weight after delivery, this one is a none brainer.

3. Exercise everyday.

OK. So a lot of exercise programs say they can help you lose weight after delivery with only 3 days a week. Let me tell you why I don’t like this - it’s too hard to make exercise a habit if you’re only doing it every other day and skipping weekends.

Now, I’m not saying that you need to exercise rigorously. In fact, I suggest just the opposite. Start slowly. You’ll feel good. You’ll want to continue exercising because you won’t hurt so much the next day.

The best way exercise to lose weight after delivery is to walk. Start with a walk around the block and build from there.

4. Drink lots of water.

Experts say a good range is 10-12 cups per day if you want to lose weight after delivery. Drinking this much water will do two things for you: cleanse your body of toxins, and help you lose water weight.

5. Graze.

This is a common sense suggestion for how to lose weight after delivery. Experts have been saying this for years. Eat small meals through out the day.

Of course this is going to depend on your ability to keep healthy snacks on hand: Fruits, grains, whole wheat products, nuts, etc.

Those are some 5 suggestions to lose weight after delivery that I found to be very helpful. I’m happy to say that even after four kids, I’m back to my pre-pregnancy weight (before my first kid).
